Conversely, Lab splits all the colour information into two channels, but separates the lightness, or luminance, onto a third independent channel. Fear not; lateral thinking reveals a relatively straightforward solution. The crux of this process lies in using channels to make a detailed alpha mask for your image (which will facilitate a similarly detailed selection), as well as in harnessing the Layer Matting features to refine your final extraction. In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through this process, as well as show you some pre- and postproduction tips to maximise the potential of your photos.
