The very important thing in this lesson that all the adjustments shown in the examples are working only if the angle of objects' location is the same. Otherwise it's necessary to play with the adjustments.

Filter Forge is an incredibly powerful new Photoshop Plugin. Itís simply amazing. It gives you the power to create your own filters (you must run them from inside Filter Forge though) without any programming knowledge at all. Some technical knowledge about procedural textures and image processing helps a lot but it is not indispensable. Filter Forge is still in an extremely solid Beta phase and you can apply to become a beta tester. You can even get Filter Forge for free if you contribute to the filter library. Submitters of great filters, which eventually may become very popular, will receive Filter Forge for free, but as they state in their web site: "Sounds simple but donít expect a giveaway, you will have to earn it". This article is not a review since I havenít tested Filter Forge in its fully potential. Instead, I will show you how to create a great looking wet and muddy rock ground texture that could be VERY difficult to do with Photoshop without the help of external plugins. Just a quick note about Filter Forge: It is an educational program in terms of how you can visualize a diagram of the components of a texture or an effect. Most of the times, we use Photoshop following step by step instructions without really knowing why things happen. This program, instead, displays, in a single view, all the steps or components used to build the texture or filter and you can tweak them in a non-linear way. This feature alone is worth the programís price in educational terms.

When I first saw the Viget Inspire Blog, I was very impressed. The background just grabs and pulls the reader right in. After studying it for a while, I still couldnít determine if it was made from an actual painting or if it was all created from scratch in Photoshop. Regardless of how it was created, it makes for a great looking design. In this tutorial, I will you show you my own technique for creating this type of background.

Let me begin by saying just a few things about this effect. First and foremost, this is one of those techniques thatís better kept to yourself when showing off your amazing photos to your friends and fellow photographers. For some reason, even in this day and age, the digital work a photographer does is looked down on as cheating by othersÖ so mumís the word. Secondly, if you plan to show or print photos using this technique, make sure you go the distance to make the photo completely convincing. Any small inconsistencies will immediately give you away as an imposter, and lets face it, none of us want that. So pick a photo with a nice straight (or at least relatively straight) waterline. If youíve got a shoreline that has big jogs and variations this technique becomes much more tricky and often impossible. I chose this photograph I took in Slovenia a few years back. Iíve always liked the composition, but hated the rough water so much I never printed it.
