Design a Sin City Style Poster
Source psdtuts »
Sin City was a really cool movie, at least visually. I really liked the stylish scenes and colors. A few months ago I saw a poster of another Frank Miller movie called "The Spirit." The poster is titled "My City Screams." It really caught my attention because of the way the design played with typography to recreate buildings. Also, the perspective was really well done. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create that effect in Photoshop, but this time we'll use Illustrator to create the perspectives and text. I'll walk through the process of creating the effect; However, it's always good if you play around and test different settings to see how it works. That for me is the best way to learn.

Posterized illustration effects
Source digitalartsonline »
Photoshop’s Posterized tool is shamefully underused. Here, artist Baz Pringle shows you how to rediscover its potential… The power of posterization shouldn’t be underestimated when it comes to creating art with Photoshop. In this piece by Baz Pringle, Photoshop’s Posterize tool is used to maximum effect. The Posterize tool allows you to specify the number of tonal levels (or brightness values) for each channel in an image, and then maps pixels to the closest matching level. For example, choosing two tonal levels in an RGB image gives six colours – two for red, two for green, and two for blue. It’s a tool useful for creating special effects, such as large, flat areas in a photograph. It also produces interesting effects in colour images, but works best with greyscale photos.

Political poster art in Photoshop
Source digitalartsonline »
Digital illustrator Anton Nelson shows you how to use advanced painting techniques in Photoshop to create poster art with impact. Photoshop is a powerful photo- editing tool but its uses are not limited to colour manipulation in photographs. Many digital artists use it like a compositing tool, allowing them to take elements from various sources and piece them together. The multiple layers allow elements to be moved around, speeding up correction for composition, colour and texture. This tutorial aims to show how an illustration made up of various elements is created and prepared for print in a magazine. The work was created in Photoshop CS3 but it could be done in any version of the program from CS1 upward.

Abstract poster effects
Source digitalartsonline »
Make your mark with strong but simple shapes and bold, read-my-lips colours: Danilo Rodrigues shows you how. It’s hard to pinpoint what makes this image so direct and powerful. Perhaps it’s the symmetry of the piece, and the way all the elements conspire to draw the viewer’s gaze to the centre. Or it might be the clean, geometric shapes, shaded in an uncluttered, Art Deco style. Maybe the colour palette, with its CMYK simplicity and Nu-Rave overtones, has something to do with it. Or is it the way it combines a classic 1960s Retro-Futurist feel – complete with space-age images – with a slightly textured backdrop, hinting at the hand-made? In this great tutorial, graphic designer Danilo Rodrigues shares a wealth of techniques that you can use to add some of this graphic’s oomph and impact to your designs.

Create B-movie poster art
Source computerarts »
Everything from desktop scans to bitmap images is useful when it comes to creating authentic B-movie poster art. Derek Lea explains how unconventional methods can yield stunning results in Photoshop… Sometimes the look of cheapness has a strong appeal. The traditional B-movies from the 50s and 60s were prime examples of cheapness. Originally they were no more than simple marketing strategies to get people into the theatres. They were often garish and tasteless to the point of insulting your intelligence. However, in that cheapness, that lack of intelligence, lies a certain timeless charm.
