Web Tips - Textures

I know I’ve been on a texture kick recently, but I’m hoping you all don’t mind. These are the textures I created in order to make my most recent set of Photoshop Brushes. I didn’t see a reason to let then collect dust on my hard drive, so I thought I’d share the source files. They look quite different in full color :) You can click on each image to view at Flickr, or download all in a zip at the bottom.

I’ve just updated my flickr account with 21 free textures for you to download. All photos were taken on Saturday in London. It wasn’t planned or anything. As a matter of fact I went to the Tate Modern Museum to take the “Street Art” tour. There are supposed to be about 15 artworks to be seen in the streets surrounding the gallery. Either I’m blind, can’t read a map or most of the artwork have already dissapeared, cause I only discovered like 3 or 4. I was really excited about this “exhibition” but ended up dissapointed. Anyways, it wasn’t all for nothing. Since I got my camera with me I used the time to shoot some grunge textures which I want to share with you. Rather than putting them in a zip file I organized them in a flickr set so that you can download the individual textures you like. Enjoy!

It seems as though there is a "bokeh revolution" going on these days, thanks to Bokeh Wednesday we get to see awesome bokeh pictures on Flickr every week. If you aren't a photographer or aren't familiar with bokeh here is a quick rundown:Bokeh (derived from Japanese boke, a noun form of bokeru, "become blurred or fuzzy") is a photographic term referring to the appearance of out-of-focus areas in an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field. Different lens bokeh produces different aesthetic qualities in out-of-focus backgrounds, which are often used to reduce distractions and emphasize the primary subject. Today I'm giving away 30 free bokeh textures for you to focus on (mwahah). I know these technically aren't "textures", so feel free to leave me a comment letting me know if you like them or not.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love free stuff. Well I love it, and I enjoy sharing my free resources with you. Ever since I read BittBox’s tutorial on how to make awesome grungy paper textures I wanted to do it myself. Finally I found the time to play with it. Once I had started there was no holding me back. I was looking through all my old paper stocks to find some more special textures to scan and tweak in Photoshop. In order to achieve an even grungier look some of the paper sheets were “marinated” in tea, folded and dried before scanning them. To be honest these freebies are the ones that took the longest to complete, but it was good, although slightly dirty, fun to make them. I hope you enjoy them. As always I encourage you to send me your designs as I am really curious as to what you used them for. There are a total of 10 free high resolution textures divided into 2 sets. Almost all paper textures are a stunning 3000px wide (well 9 out of 10) and you have the chance to see previews (with the exact dimensions) of them all.

When I take my camera out to grab some shots of textures I usually come home with literally hundreds of images. The really amazing ones, I release in the Colorburned Shop. The good ones get released as freebies and the others get held over just in case. The other day I was looking through some of my old sand images and I realized that some of them, while not technically textures, were good enough to be released as freebies on my site. When I go through my images I try to distinguish between what's a texture and what's a photo. In my mind a texture is any kind of image that you can skin a 3D model with. A photo is just about everything else. Included in this set are 21 high resolution textures of the sand and ocean from a trip I recently took to the beach. These textures are free and you are permitted to use them in both your personal and professional work. You may not however resell or redistribute these files in part or whole without the expressed permission of Colorburned Studios. Thank you very much and enjoy!

Textures are always useful and necessary to give to your design a more natural feeling, not so digital. We can use them in many ways, but the most common is for backgrounds, however in my case I was looking for good textures for some Photoshop Displace Filter experiments.
