50 Beautiful Examples Of Tilt-Shift Photography
Source smashingmagazine »
Tilt-shift photography is a creative and unique type of photography in which the camera is manipulated so that a life-sized location or subject looks like a miniature-scale model. Below we present 50 beautiful examples of tilt-shift photography. All examples are linked to their sources. We strongly encourage you to explore other works of the photographers we’ve featured in this post. To add good miniature effect to your photographs, shoot subjects from a high angle (especially from the air). It creates the illusion of looking down at a miniature model. A camera equipped with a tilt-shift lens, which simulates a shallow depth of field, is essentially all you need to start.

How to Photograph Natural Looking Portraits
Source digital-photography-school »
In this post, Hawaii wedding and portrait photographer, Natalie Norton talks about how she achieves natural, relaxed portraits from her clients. Here’s the scoop. This is how I do things. You don’t have to do them this way, you may have a system that works better for you, if so, please, do tell in the comment section of the post. I just want to make it perfectly clear that this is MY system, not THE system for creating natural portraits. Take it or leave it ;). Enjoy. I think people work on the presumption that in order to create a relaxed portrait, a shot that has that natural, genuine candid feel we all love in our photographs, you have to back off completely and just capture the moments as they unfold. This is completely true and completely false all at the same time. I’ve found that subjects who aren’t given good, sturdy, confident direction have a VERY hard time feeling relaxed and therefore looking natural. They end up acting awkward and looking incredibly posed when in reality the exact opposite holds true. Creating relaxed portraits isn’t complicated in any way shape or form, but you do need a system. Here’s mine, step by step.

HDR Photos: Flickr
Source thatindiedude »
HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography has been huge on the web for a couple years now. The idea is to combine the highlight details from under-exposed shots with the shadow details from over-exposed shots into a single image, in the process more accurately displaying the world that we see with our eyes. The result is something ofter earily realistic, dramatic, and at the same time synthetic.

This Week in the Digital Photography School Forums
Source digital-photography-school »
We finished the Texture this week, and boy did we get a feel for things. dblaveino’s shot of the red door really stood out to all of us. The vivid colours, and strong textures that seem like you could just reach out and touch them made it a clear winner this week. But our runners up were really close too. KodiakStar’s picture, titled “What is texture, without touch” took the idea of texture to it’s extreme. Not only did the picture have the texture of the finger, but also a texture added on top with post-processing, and of course, what is texture if you don’t have touch? And last but not least, k9mom’s picture of the yellow lamp shade had a very strong texture that was backlit by the bulb. The primary colours and diagonal lines also helped to accentuate the composition.

Reaching Out to Underpriveleged Children Through Photography
Source digital-photography-school »
Everyone who has ever been interested in photography might have seen or heard of the movie called, “Born Into Brothels” and how the photographer Zana Brinski transformed the lives of the children of Calcutta through the art of photography. That movie transformed my life. Humanitarian work has always been something that I was interested in. After hurricane Katrina tested the wills of Americans across the continent, I read about an art teacher that went to New Orleans from the east coast to do art with the children living in the stadium during her spring break. As an art teacher myself, I remembered thinking that I wish I could do something like that.
