This tutorial is going to teach you how to make a nice fire dragon. Well the process of designing Fire Dragon wallpaper is not full of interesting tips and tricks. It was actually 24 hours of drawing with brushes of different sizes and colors.

This tutorial is actually a "making of" where I explain how I proceeded to achieve this matte painting. I use a Wacom Intuos A4 board, if you don't have any graphic board this is going to be hard but not impossible. At each step of the matte painting, useless to remind you to create a new layer so that the work will be easier and mistakes avoided !

Don’t let your illustration become an anatomy drawing from the biology classes, use your unique ideas to draw your viewers attentions. The inspiration of My World came from an early piece titled Butterfly. Closely studying past works will sometimes give you a new feeling about it, I felt an urge to compose an image which can give a new world to Butterfly, a new definition. I usually use blue pencils for contouring and drafting out my works, then with 0.5 2B mechanical pencil to finalize the outline and define the finer details before scanning the drawing into the computer and adjusting the contrast in Photoshop. Coloring is done solely in painter.

Here is a walkthrough of how I went about painting the portrait of my cat. Now this isn't a tutorial mind you - meaning it is not ok by me to copy this picture. Pick apart the steps, take what you will from it... my goal here is that somebody might be able to find something helpful in all this, not to have everyone copy my painting. *grin* :D

In my artwork, I generally try to express a feeling, to tell a story… Seheiah is a bit different. I had been asked to illustrate August for a publishing firm. So I based my artwork on the idea of a kind of goddess in an antic style. I wanted it to depict a quite “fresh and radiant” feeling, a reminder of a summer morning. Thus I decided to include a wood with a lake above which my goddess would fly.

In this “making of”, I will share with you how I painted my “Beast” concept. There are many ways to achieve this; however, I will be showing you my favourite method... This character was a game character and it was presented as a 3D version in a cinematic game. About the beast; it lives in the Middle Ages and has powerful and rapid strength to make an attack. So, I began by thinking about the figure of the “beast” and sketched several angles of different views for modelling, then scanned into Photoshop and painted them in Photoshop 7.

This picture was done in a hot summer day, in the memory of an old anime series I used to watch as a kid, about Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Historically, it’s off from that period, but it’s the feeling of summer, childhood fascination and nature that I wanted to re-create. It’s also a tribute to music. The picture was done to resemble an animation still, cel-shaded characters over a “traditionally” painted background. I tried to do this digitally, using colour as if I were working with watercolours. I worked in Photoshop CS2, at approximately 3000 x 812 pixels. Could have been bigger, but my home pc isn’t so powerful. For inspiration, I also had an open book with Oga Kazuo’s work. He’s the most brilliant nature painter and animation background artist I know.
