In this lesson I will describe the process of drawing a plant and drawing drops of water on its leaves.

Step 1. We begin with a background. In our case it is absolutely not necessary, because in this lesson we pay attention only on drawing and detailed elaboration of a plant. But that it is better to feel its color, we’ll pick up to the background a gentle shade.

Step 2. We create a New Layer and the fast sketch of leaves is done.

Step 3. When the sketch will be ready, we pass to a palette. We select some shades of green color, and we paint over plants, considering more light areas and a shadow.

Step 4. Let’s pick up two more shades, darker and lighter. By means of game of light and a shadow, we’ll give to the plant volume.

Step 5. We choose Eraser Tool. Accurately we wipe up all superfluous, do lines more equal and graceful. Then again we take a brush, with the darkest shade, and we draw corners.

Step 6. In adjustments of a brush we lower Opacity up to 30 %. We draw an average part of leaves, and lines symmetrically departing from it.

Step 7. Let’s return Opacity value of 100 % and we’ll work with the darkest zones. Then by means of Brush Tool and Eraser Tool we’ll correct the form of the bottom forward leaf.

Step 8. We choose Dodge Tool (Highlights, 75 %) and it is clarified average parts of leaves.

Step 9. Then we take Burn Tool (Midtones, 50 %) and we black out areas of the shadow. Leaves should become more volumetric and realistic.

Step 10. By means of tools Brush, Eraser and Burn Tool, we correct the form of a stalk, doing it more detailed.

Step 11. The plant is almost ready. Now we start to work above the second part – drops. We’ll take a simple brush also we’ll draw a sketch on which we’ll show how drops on leaves will settle down.

Step 12. By means of Eyedropper Tool we choose color of area on which the drop will be drawn, and we do it a little brighter. With the received shade we draw the form. When the form will be ready, the layer with a sketch of drops can be removed.

Step 13. Then we choose a shade more darkly than areas on which the drop is drawn, and we draw a shadow.

Step 14. We choose Brush Tool. Mode of brushes it is changed on Color, Opacity about 30 %. Accurately we paint over drops, not overstepping the bounds.

Step 15. By Dodge Tool we do drops lighter.

Step 16. By means of a usual brush of white color it is drawn on drops reflection of a light source – small white points. Their arrangement depends on how the shadow falls.

Step 17. We choose the Eraser Tool and make the central part of drops more transparent.

Step 18. We take Dodge Tool (Highlights, 100 %), also we’ll clarify drops at the basis.

Step 19. By means of Burn Tool (Midtones, 30 %) we will draw a shadow from drops.

Step 20. And now again we use Dodge Tool, but already with adjustments: Range (Highlights), Opacity (50 %). We clarify the top part of drops.

Step 21. Let’s make, that drops would gleam with all colors of a rainbow. For this purpose we take a simple brush, and on a New Layer we draw above each drop in a number of a point of all colors of the rainbow. Then we smear them by Blur Tool.

Step 22. By means of Smudge Tool smear them almost up to a transparency, and contain them in the form of drops that iridescent patches of light. We reduce Fill of the layer up to 30-40 %.

Step 23. We reduce Fill of the layer up to 30-40 %.

Step 24. We choose Dodge Tool (Highlights, 100 %), and draw reflections of light from drops on leaves.

Step 25. Using brushes in the form of stars, or draw with a simple brush (Opacity: 20 %, Color: white), we make radiance on drops.

Step 26. With Dodge Tool we clarify drops inside.

Step 27. Last touches: using Blur Tool, we smooth the top leaf, and by a brush of a dark shade we correct its form.
